Abstract

This research programme will develop tools and techniques for mathematical and statistical analysis of DNA microarray data. The analysis will focus mainly on two aspects: pre-processing and visualisation (interpretation) of multivariate microarrays time series data. The principal aim of this project is to complement commercial software tools with advanced normalisation tools, component analysis, fuzzy clustering, time series analysis, projection and non-linear visualisation techniques. In order to develop these generic tools and techniques two large benchmark data sets will be obtained for a simple eukaryotic system (herpes virus) and, later, a challenging bacterial system (Streptomyces). These data sets, tools and techniques, and appropriate training will be made available to the wider UK functional genomics community.
