Abstract

This research programme will combine the expertise of a consortium of biologists, control engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians and statisticians to develop and validate a broad range of mathematical modelling tools for DNA microarray analysis - a key area of post- genomic research. The analysis will focus mainly on large robust microarray datasets obtained from a model bacterium, Streptomyces coelicolor, and a simple model eukaryotic system, herpes virus lytic replication. Our goal is to produce generic tools for modelling changes in cellular transcriptomes following induction of defined cellular processes and gain new biological insight into the gene regulation networks of the two representative model systems. These technologies and appropriate training will be made available to the wider UK functional genomics community. (Joint with grants 17734, 17735, 17737 and 17738).
