Abstract

The now complete genome sequence of C. jejuni will facilitate proteome mapping by 2D gel analysis and identification by mass spectroscopy of proteins expressed at significant levels, both under standard conditions and with selected stresses and genetic changes. A consortium of groups will maximise the scope of this approach using shared methods with defined media and manufactured gels to allow comparison of data. Participants will analyse subcellular fractions, other strains, and cells modified by mutation in regulatory genes or subjected to temperature, osmotic, pH and starvation stresses. An overview of protein expression and its significance, more detailed than hitherto available for any other pathogen, is thus within reach. (Joint with grants BFP11390 and BFP11391).
