Abstract
Current understanding of the mechanisms by which steroids control the expression of specific genes is limited by lack of information about the function of transcriptional cofactors acting as coactivators or corepressors. We will study the role of Nrip1 (RIP140), a nuclear receptor corepressor particularly implicated in oestrogen action. Nrip1 is essential for normal maturation of spermatozoa and is selectively expressed within the testis and male tract. We will investigate the role of Nrip1, identify genes whose expression is modulated by the protein and characterise the signalling pathways involved. This work will provide a novel insight into the role of corepressors in modulating steroid action and their role in male fertility. (Joint with grant 29/S15887).
