Abstract

The proposal seeks to support high quality research proposals in the areas of research of the applicants: Plant nematode interactions and engineered resistance. Membrane protein biology and genomics. Neuroscience and neural gene expression. Population and environmental genetics. GATA-binding factors and floral development. Screening genes of medical importance for functional polymorphisms. RNA aptamer selection and analysis. Specifically this bid is to replace an existing ABI373XL machine with an ABI Prism 3100 automated 16 capillary instrument to provide access to new dye technologies, faster run times, higher throughput, and thus a significantly enhanced DNA sequencing capacity. The instrument will also perform DNA fragment analysis such as microsatellite studies. The instrument will be integrated with the existing liquid handling robot for template preparation and DNA sequence reaction set up. The application also seeks to provide a Transgenomic WAVE instrument that will provide an efficient analytical tool, based on denaturing HPLC for the analysis of single polynucleotide polymorphisms, the collection of target products and their subsequent DNA sequencing using the ABI prism 3100.
