Abstract

A quantitative description of the interactions between biomolecules is fundamental to our understanding of living organisms at the molecular level. We plan to use Surface Plasmon Resonance as a technique to probe in real time the nature of such interactions in a wide range of important plant, food and microbial systems. Specifically the principle aims of the research will be to investigate protein:protein, protein:ligand, protein:DNA and protein:lipid interactions between purified components in a variety of projects. In addition, ligand-fishing techniques will be used to isolate and subsequently identify hitherto unknown interacting components.
