Abstract

The objectives are to measure structural changes in proteins which span a wide variety of projects within the Krebs Institute, from conformational transitions measured on protein folding, proteins mis-folding to disease causing amyloidogenic forms, enzyme catalysis and ligand binding. This award will support the following studies: 1). protein folding and amyloidogenesis of cystatins, human prion proteins and PGK; 2). structure and function of light harvesting complexes in plants; 3a). the enzymology of the biosynthetic pathways for chlorophylls and carotenoid pigments, and 3b). the assembly, structure and function of light harvesting (LH) complexes; 4). conformational transitions that accompany DNA recognition and catalysis by DNA methyltransferases; 5). bacterial respiration; and 6). oxygen-regulated gene expression and haemolysin activity and export.
