Abstract

The aim is to provide an experimental, computational and theoretical framework to help bridge the gap between gene function and development of shape. A combination of approaches will be used to derive quantitative dynamic growth maps for three developmental systems ¿ the Arabidopsis leaf, Drosophila wing and mouse limb. This will involve tracking cells over time in 2D or 3D and clonal analysis to estimate regional growth parameters and organ shapes resulting from growth and/or rearrangements of cells. Dynamic maps will be developed that show the pattern of growth over space and time. These will be used together with knowledge of gene activities to derive testable predictive models for key components governing the development of shape. (Joint with grant number 20321).
