Abstract

There is now an urgent and growing need for training in microarray technologies and data analysis, since there is a dramatic rise in the utilisation of this new technology by experimental groups. For example, the Affymetrix microarray facility at the Institute of Child Health is being used by more than 60 different experimental groups at the moment, with many other UCL groups also using spotted arrays. Most researchers lack vital knowledge regarding the pros and cons of different technologies, experimental design, data normalisation, annotation standards, and data analysis. The most effective way to deliver training in the required skills would be through a specifically designed course run as a Summer School, starting in 2002.
