Abstract

Imperial, UCL and EBI will use GRID technology to provide a structure-based annotation of the proteins in the major genomes (the proteomes). The annotation will primarily employ sophisticated homology and fold recognition methods to assign protein structures to the proteomes and generate 3D models. Enhanced functional annotation will exploit the structural information. The distributed annotation system (DAS) at the EBI will provide a common user interface to the annotations at the 3 sites for each community. The high performance computational needs for the regular updates will be met by sharing resources at each site using the GRID under GLOBUS. This project will develop the prototype for a national:distributed proteome annotation GRID. (Joint with grants 17014 and 17048).
