Abstract

A detailed understanding of how avians respond to pathogens and vaccines is limited by incomplete knowledge of the molecular, cellular and anatomical components of an immune system that differs between birds and widely-studied biomedical species. The aim of this proposal is to generate tools, reagents and assays and use them to elucidate aspects of the immune system that will give a fuller understanding of basic processes and the ability to elicit more rapid, efficacious and sustainable immunity to pathogen challenge.
