Abstract

The objectives are: 1) to determine the molecular details and consequences of the interaction between Marek's disease virus (MDV)-encoded Meq and the cellular co-repressor of transcription CtBP. We will attempt to answer the question - why is CBP necessary for MDV-mediated cell transformation?; 2) to identify the precise stage(s) when this interaction is important in the pathogenesis of Marek's disease; and 3) to determine whether engineered viruses encoding CtBP-binding mutants of Meq would be suitable for the development of a new recombinant vaccine for the prevention of Marek's disease.
