Abstract

The objectives are to identify differentially transcribed genes in aged PrP0/0 mice relative to wild-type controls by a microarray approach; to provide complementary information of protein levels in these mice by comparative proteomics techniques; to demonstrate whether ¿down-regulation¿ of particular proteins represents regulation of transcription or loss of specific neurones; to investigate whether transgenic mice expressing mutated PrP proteins show similar molecular and physiological phenotype to PrP0/0 mice on ageing; to build a model of the mechanisms of the neuroprotective mechanisms of PrPc during ageing.
