Abstract

This core project will investigate aspects of (1) the relationship between PrP and infection, (2) the molecular definition of TSE strains, (3) the Role of lymphoid tissue in peripheral pathogenesis, (4)the mechanism of infection following oral exposure, (5) the role of PrPsequence/structure in TSE transmission, (6) the basis of the species barrier, (7) the effects of age on susceptibility, (9) pathogenesis and pathology of central and peripheral nervous systems and (10) normal function of PrP.
