Abstract

To compare the impact of different methods of breeding for scrapie resistance with controls where no selective breeding takes place. The following questions are addressed: Is selective breeding based upon PrP genotype an effective method of scrapie control? Is it worth the extra expense of determining PrP genotype for ewes as well as rams? Can one breed for scrapie resistance without losing desirable breed characteristics?
