Abstract

Multidisciplinary studies will be used to investigate the feasibility of genetically engineering microbial polysaccharide structure. The chemical, physical chemical and functional characteristics of the modified polysaccharides produced will be determined. The main investigation will concentrate on modification of bacterial polysaccharides produced by the model system Acetobacter xylinum.
