Abstract
Europeans have low compliance with dietary recommendations and guidelines, resulting in poor health and unhealthy ageing. Public health campaigns hardly improve this compliance. Providing personalised diet and lifestyle information has been shown to be more effective at changing behaviour compared to general information. A new paradigm has emerged with personal dietary advice based on personal preference, genotype and phenotype, health status and assessment as well as motivational goals. QuaLiFY will valorise and integrate the concepts, tools and infrastructures developed by the FP6- and FP7-funded projects EuroFIR, NuGO and EURRECA, EUROGENE and Food4Me. By combining these activities, QuaLiFY will build a concerted platform on which European SMEs can mature these research developments. A complementary group of SMEs involved in (1) food composition tables and food intake quantification, (2) self-quantification technologies in genotype, phenotype and nutritional status, (3) data handling and personal advice IT tools, (4) production and provision of Personalised dietary advice services and (5) innovative business development will join forces. QuaLiFY will create a solid basis to launch commercially viable products and services in the area of personalised dietary advice by providing a knowledge infrastructure and harmonised open innovation protocols. Three main areas of implementation have been chosen, based on the interaction between dieticians and clients: obese children, eating disorders and type 2 (pre-) diabetics. Furthermore, all resulting QuaLiFY products and services will be tested, integrated and optimised for consumer use in a field lab setting, the ‘Nutrition Researcher Cohort’. Last, but not least, QuaLiFY will prepare a business plan and perform a social and economic life-cycle assessment in line with the International Reference Life Cycle Data System (ILCD) handbook.
