Abstract

PROMISE is a small scale focused research project concerned with harmonization of data collection, and interpretation, with regard to food safety across the EU27 member states. PROMISE aims to address challenges to food safety that arise as a consequence of increased globalization and increased food chain complexity. The PROMISE project team includes a significant component, from the EU New Member states, that will support integration of information across the wider community and a stronger emphasis on analysis and interpretation of community data – particularly in terms of spatio-temporal patterns and trends. Stronger interpretations will evaluate to significance of national borders, trade patterns and technology gradients. Additionally PROMISE will enhance knowledge of pathogen transmission and increase capability for risk assessments in the partner institutions. The project will include a major effort to improve EU wide networking and involvement of risk communicators to establish a sustainable approach to food safety management across the broader EU.
