Abstract

Previous comparisons of contents of nutritionally relevant compounds in organic, low input and conventional crops demonstrated that the composition of crops can be significantly affected by the production system. However, there was substantial variability between studies and often within studies and they were also inconclusive due to insignificant control of potential confounding factors. The objectives of this sub-project will be: 1. Identify and quantify principal differences in nutritional quality between organic, low input and conventional crop production systems; 2. Quantify the affect of the production system components on differences in content of nutritionally relevant compounds, sensory and technical quality observed between the systems in 1. 3. To identify interactions between production system components with respect to composition, sensory and technical quality in crops. IFR will provide data for folates and act as an nutritional adviser for this sub-project.
