Abstract
The determination of the structures of a large series of biologically important inositol phosphates and, from this knowledge, work on their potential roles has already shown that some are important inhibitors of tissue damage whilst others are important signalling molecules. This work is determining the absolute chemical structure of new biological molecules we isolate from cells. Without this information it is impossible to begin to design experiments to probe the possible cellular functions of new molecules.
