Abstract

This proposal aims to pump-prime a permanent, in-house bioinformatics research programme in support of the post-genomics technologies in use at IFR. The key research challenges to be addressed are: the design and implementation of relational databases, for integrating large locally-generated collections of heterogeneous data obtained from multiple genomic, post-genomic and non-omic subdisciplines; the integration of such databases with external knowledge bases; the development of statistical computing methods (data mining, modelling, visualisation) for analysing high-dimensional data sets; the production of software tools for carrying out such analysis, and for integration within the database systems.
