Abstract

Mareks disease is a highly contagious disease caused by an oncogenic herpesvirus. MDV genome shows more than 100 ORFs. Although most of these genes are homologous of other herpesvirus genes, there are several other genes unique to MDV. The expression kinetics of MDV genes and their association with the unique biological characteristics of MDV-induced disease have not been systematically studied. DNA microarrays have been used as powerful tools for analysing genome-wide expression of several herpesviruses. In order to provide a better understanding of how the temporal pattern of MDV gene expression contributes to viral replication and pathogenicity, we propose to investigate the MDV transcription program using DNA arrays. MDV transcriptome analysis would provide an understanding of the molecular basis for many unique properties of MDV. (Joint with BBS/B/09775)
