Abstract

Novel aminophosphine complexes of Ru(II), Ru(III), Pd(II) and Pt(II) which undergo controlled chelate ring-opening reactions under conditions of biological relevance will be synthesised. The roles of the metal and dangling arm(s) in highly unusual DNA recognition reactions including supercoil unwinding, cross-linking, structural transitions, protein binding, sequence specificity and cleavage will be investigated. Their potential in antisense strategies, small molecule recognition, and as antiviral and anticancer agents will be exploited.
