Abstract

A request to extend the rolling grant of the Centre for Metalloprotein Spectroscopy and Biology (CMSB) at UEA in order to provide core funding for research personnel, equipment and consumables over a four-year period beginning 01.10.95. The Centre comprises 8 faculty members drawn from the Schools of Biological and Chemical Sciences, and it is proposed will be increased to 10. CMSB studies the functional roles of transition metal ions in biology focusing on bacterial pathways which process inorganic substrates including dioxygen hydrogen peroxide, the oxides of nitrogen, ammonia and hydroxylamine. Hence metalloenzymes involved in dioxygen chemistry, the enzymes of the aerobic denitrifying and nitrifying cycles and non-haem iron chemistry and metabolism are under study.
