Abstract

This research will provide a detailed description of the biochemical properties of two medically valuable cysteine proteases. Depending upon clinical needs, the properties of these enzymes will be modified by mutagenesis following gene cloning. Highly efficient heterologus transgenic plant expression systems producing high yields of these molecules will be developed and such a system will have as a major consideration that it should be generic and capable of adaptation to produce other molecules.
