Abstract
A target will be identified through modulation of which a drug for the treatment of neurodegenerative disease can be developed. Ligands for this target will be selected through the development of novel high throughput screening technology. The screening technology itself will be a major product of the research widely applicable to the discovery of treatments for other diseases. This will consist of a high density array of compounds on suitable filters, a novel reader and data handling tools. Lead compounds identified will be tested in secondary pharmacology and tissue culture assays to confirm their suitability for further development.
