Abstract

This proposal aims to investigate the effects of altered photoperiod on the time of spawning in the Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar), its hormonal control and the interaction of temperature and freshwater residence with these processes; this will include detailed investigations of melatonin, GnRH, GTH I/II and the gonadal steroids. Strategically, the ability to produce all- year-round supplies of eggs would be an important technical advance for the salmon farming industry.
