Abstract

This collaborative project will examine a series of novel affinity ligands which will interact in a highly specific manner with oligonucleotides and related nucleic acid compounds. Their potential in the analytical and process scale purifications of nucleic acid-related compounds will be investigated using chromatographic, spectroscopic and surface analytical techniques. Special emphasis will be placed on understanding and controlling the specificity and kinetics of the molecular interaction with the target molecules. It is projected that the fundamental work in this proposal will lead to an improved understanding of biospecific separations of DNA, RNA and oligonucleotides, which will have direct practical relevance to the purification of these high-value pharmaceutical products.
