Abstract

Advanced DNA and embryo technologies that offer opportunities for faster genetic gain, are available to livestock improvement companies. However, inappropriate application of these techniques may in fact reduce gain and promote loss of genetic theory, for managing genetic variation in a sustainable and optimum way. This project aims to (i) extend existing theory to include advanced DNA and embryo techniques; and (ii) develop practical implementation routes in close collaboration with major livestock improvement companies within the LINK Sustainable Livestock Production Programme.
