Abstract

The overall objective of this research programme is to understand how hydrophobic proteins insert into biological membranes. Fluorescence-based approaches will be used to analyse the structures of thylakoid membrane proteins in aqueous phases and after binding to membrane surface or components of translocation apparatus. The aim is to understand 1) the insertion pathways; 2) the conformations; and 3) the secondary structure content at key stages of the entire insertion mechanisms.
