Abstract

The Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine has a tradition of interdisciplinary studies of molecular structures. Under its umbrella, and largely within a single campus, the College contains a diversity of disciplines including computer sciences, bio-mechanical engineering, biophysics, biochemistry, biology and the largest UK medical school. Structural Biology has been identified as one of the College's main focal points for research and teaching, and the Imperial College Centre for Structural Biology (IC-CSB) has been established. The College has already committed in excess of 6 million pounds in this field by creating many new staff positions and providing dedicated space through refurbishment and new building work. We now seek to achieve the status of BBSRC Centre for Structural Biology in order to fully exploit the available potential.
