Abstract

Eimeria are major pathogens of livestock, closely related to other serious pathogens such as Plasmodium and Cryptosporidium. Sequencing of the 60 Mb E.tenella genome has progressed rapidly to 5-fold coverage. A bioinformatician is required to carry out detailed manual annotation of the genome and to curate all E. tenella genome-related data within a user-friendly generic database structure (GeneDB). The appointee will be based at IAH, Compton, alongside Eimeria experts, but will spend a significant amount of time at the Pathogen Sequencing Unit (PSU), Sanger Institute. Annotation will be supported by sequencing EST's from different parasite developmental stages and the generation of a comprehensive training set of full-length cDNAs.
