Abstract

We have recently described a circadian clock in Caenorhabditis elegans and identified its first 'clock gene'. With C. elegans as a leading metazoan model for functional genomics, the molecular dissection of its circadian clock can take new avenues of investigation. The proposed project will 1) provide a general characterisation of the circadian clock as basis for any future work, 2) produce and optimise luciferase reporter constructs for high throughput analysis of the clock, 3) identify genes required for the clock by screening about 200 candidate 'clock genes' using dsRNA interference, 4) provide initial insights into causal relationships between the identified genes and the clock process, in collaboration with the C. elegans community.
