Abstract

Maintaining an object in working memory shifts selective attention toward matching objects in the visual scene. This process may serve to guide limited-capacity processing resources towards stimuli in the environment that support the current goals of the organism. The proposed work uses and established procedure to elucidate the mechanisms by which working memory influences visual attention. The results will have implications for both neural and cognitive models of the top-down control of information processing.
