Abstract
The aim of this project is to use the MARCM technique to analyse the entire process of neurogenesis in Drosophila from the first division of a neuroblast to the last. The project is in two sections. Section 1 proposes to make a complete analysis of neurogenesis in the thoracic neuromeres to describe their clonal organisation and identify the major anatomical and functional features of complete neuronal lineages. Section 2 uses mutations and ectopic gene expression to examine the roles of the engrailed and frazzled genes in controlling the development of identified clones of neurons.
