Abstract

Insect host cell responses to infection by two insect viruses that are from unrelated taxa, the baculoviruses and entomopoxviruses, will be studied with regard to effects on host cell transition. The temporal expression of HaEPV infection in Df9 cells will be established as well as effects on host protein synthesis by timecourse labelling experiments. AcMNPVrotein and HaEPVrotein infected Sf9 cells will be monitored for steady state RNA levels of several proteins of known function by Northern blot analysis. Infected cell time-course samples will be compared to uninfected cells, using modified differential display technology to identify differentially expressed transcripts, which will be isolated and sequenced.
