Abstract

Light microscopy plays a basic role in modern cell biological research. Our two groups urgently require good quality microscope facilities to examine the projection and developmental patterns of neurones in the central nervous systems of insects and crustaceans. Of major importance to us is to utilise the now affordable, immense benefits of high- resolution digital image acquisition to analyse the anatomy and physiology of central and peripheral neurones stained with Green Fluorescent Protein and other fluorescent dyes. The purchase of state-of-the-art system will not only allow us to examine in detail the anatomy of neurones but will also provide us with the equipment necessary to develop further research areas.
