Abstract
The learned predictive or causal status of a cue can be changed by information acquired during episodes in which the cue is not presented. This retrospective revaluation challenges one of the most fundamental assumptions of the standard associative theory of causal and predictive learning. The project will develop a modified associative theory to explain retrospective revaluation and examine the theory empirically using human causal judgement and animal conditioning procedures.
