Abstract

This project will define the biological and molecular properties of dendritic cells found in lymph - afferent lymph veiled cells (ALVC). Preliminary studies show two novel phenotypic populations of ALVC based on Mab staining of surface antigens, particularly CD 11a+/11a- and other molecules. Their biological properties will be defined based on macropinocytosis, presentation of exogenous and endogenous antigen and their in vivo location with lymphoid tissues. The influence of viral infection on the phenotypic expression and biological functions of ALVC will be examined in cells infected both in vitro with BVDV persistently-infected animals.
