Abstract

Recent advances in (i) the physiological manipulation of the central nervous system, and (ii) behavioural assays of learning about complex events in non-human animals, provide a great opportunity to increase our understanding of how memories are formed and represented in the brain. This project will capitalise on these advances and use a novel combination of selective physiological interventions and recently developed behavioural tasks to investigate the role of the hippocampal system in the formation of memories for complex events; that is, to investigate the neural basis of perceptual learning.
