Abstract

To establish the metabolic energy cost and efficiency of echolocation pulse production in six different species of bat. To determine the relationship between the cost/efficiency of call production and both the call structure (frequency and amplitude) and mechanism of call production in the different species. To tie up the relationship between foraging strategy (active flyer v. flycatcher) and energy cost/efficiency/mechanism of echolocation.
