Abstract

Pavlovian conditioning experiments with rats and pigeons will evaluate a configural theory of associative learning. Some of the experiments will be based on two procedures that have been said to yield results which pose challenge to configural theory: summation and occasion setting. The experiments will evaluate modifications and developments of configural theory which enable it to explain these problematic findings. The remaining experiments will test the predictions made by configural theory concerning supernormal conditioning.
