Abstract

The purpose of the project is to understand the molecular basis of the genome replication processes of bluetongue virus (BTV), the etiological agent of an economically important disease of ruminants. The objective is to define the various enzymatic activities of the viral coded proteins that are responsible for BTV transcription and replication processes, rendering viral mRNA into the ds RNA genome. The study will use available recombinant BTV proteins, morphological structures, genetic materials and a recently-developed multigene expression vector system. Both Oxford University and the AFRC Institute for Animal Health have expertise in BTV research.
