Abstract

Complementary DNA to Newcastle disease virus genes cloned into baculovirus vectors will be expressed in insect cells. The insect cells will also be co-infected with a recombinant baculovirus expressing a cloned DNA fragment which on transcription and cleavage at ribozyme sites will yield a truncated version of the viral RNA genome. The production in the cells of NDV virus-like particles (VLPs) will be monitored and the yield optimised. VLPs will be purified and their efficacy as poultry vaccines assessed. The ability of the expressed NDV proteins to replicate the RNA will also be studied.
