Abstract

The objectives are to characterise DNA probes for studies of natterjack toad populations, and to use these probes to determine the nature of barriers on agricultural land, extent of inbreeding depression and the existence of habitat-adapted alleles in this endangered species. Tadpole DNA from all 40 extant populations will be subjected to Southern analysis using single-locus and micro-satellite probes, and to RAPD analysis. Genetic analysis will also be related to fitness studies.
