Abstract

The supply of S into reproductive tissues of brassicas (oilseed rape and Arabidopsis), and allocation between metabolic pools and seed storage compounds will be studied. The biochemical and molecular basis will be determined, aided by study of Arabidopsis mutants with defined lesions in the regulation of S metabolism. In addition, manipulation of glucosinolate metabolism by elicitors with known effects will be used to alter fluxes through S metabolic pools. The results will aid in the development of crops with reduced S demand, and production of transgenic plants with enhanced high-S storage proteins.
