Abstract

Transgenic Arabidopsis plants which are constitutively overexpressing either low or high affinity NO3- transporters will be used to investigate the role of nitrate transport in limiting the rate of nitrate assimilation and controlling nitrogen allocation within the plant. Transgenic plants expressing a fungal high affinity NO3- transporter will be used to study whether post- translational regulation may be important in modifying influx. A novel yeast complementation system will also be used to clone new nitrate transporters from Arabidopsis.
