Abstract

In this proposal we request funding to purchase an additional mass spectrometer capable of operating as LC-MS/MS from Applied Biosystems. The rationale behind this request is threefold: To provide CCP with sufficient LC-MS/MS capacity to meet the demands of local researchers who largely form the set of co-applicants of this proposal. Detailed descriptions of the research to be facilitated by the purchase of this equipment are listed in the case for support. To ensure CCP remains at the forefront of recent technological advances in the field of quantitative proteomics in situations where samples are unsuitable for 2D PAGE approaches. This will benefit existing collaborators from the Arabidopsis and Drosophila communities who use CCPs facilities as part of BBSRC IGF Initiative. To enable CCP to expand their existing collaborations with Applied Biosystems by evaluating and developing the use of QSTAR system in conjunction with integral membrane protein samples, developing further cICAT and its integration into a routine core facility setting and optimisation of the system using a variety of staining protocols with samples applied to 2D gels.
