Abstract

Bacteria must sense excess or deficiency of each metal ion. Metal sensors of this family of regulators are some of the proteins that perform this role. We will characterise the mechanism by which, following metal binding, these proteins transduce the signal to alter gene expression. Motifs that determine which metal is sensed will be identified.
