Abstract

We propose to construct a physical map of the pig genome using a specially constructed radiation hybrid panel. A framework map will be built with approx. 300 evenly spaced microsatellite (CA) markers selected from the published linkage maps. Expressed sequences will be assigned to this map. Sequence data for CpG islands and 3-untranslated regions of cDNA clones will be used to design PCR primers for this purpose. By using markers developed for linkage analysis we will be able to directly compare the physical and recombination maps. The radiation hybrid panel will be an ideal resource for current and future mapping of genes.
